Quizzes and formative assessment

Live quizzes with scoring, teams and leaderboards

EdAuthor supports scored live quizzes as part of a complete teaching session. Set correct answers, points and a time limit, choose whether faster answers earn more points, and review individual or group performance.

Choose how the quiz is scored

Create a multiple-choice quiz question with one or more correct options. Set the points and response time, and switch speed scoring on or off. You can show a leaderboard after a question and review the final standings.

Let teams think before they answer

Use group participation for collaborative quizzes. In leader mode, group members can suggest answers and the group leader submits the team response. Review group scores and member contributions when discussing the result.

Combine a quiz with other learning activities

Put a diagnostic question before a presentation, pause for group discussion, then ask a follow-up quiz question. Keep the quiz, prompts, rankings and reflection in reusable Activity Card bundles.

Try a ten-minute knowledge check

Ask students to answer a question individually, explain their reasoning in groups, and respond to a follow-up question. Reveal the result and ask which argument changed their thinking. Turn speed scoring off when reasoning matters more than response speed.

Review the evidence after the session

Use session and Activity Card results to revisit responses. Paid plans provide CSV and PDF exports; check the pricing page for capacity and history limits. Result exports support follow-up teaching without requiring every activity to be a competition.

Frequently asked questions

Does EdAuthor have quiz leaderboards?

Yes. EdAuthor has scored quizzes, an optional leaderboard after a question and a final leaderboard. Scoring can reward correct answers with or without a speed component.

Can students answer a quiz as a team?

Yes. Group quiz workflows include member suggestions and a group leader submitting the team answer.

Is a Scratch Card the same as a quiz?

They are separate Activity Card types. A Quiz supports timed, scored questions and leaderboards. A Scratch Card lets participants attempt answers by scratching options to reveal feedback, with points and group support.

Can I try quizzes on the Free plan?

Yes. Quiz activities are available on the Free plan within its participation and saved-session limits. CSV and PDF result exports require a paid plan.
